Dan Henderson vs. Fedor Emelianenko Rumors Are Heating Up
Esther Lin for Strikeforce
As soon as Dan Henderson defeated Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio to become the new Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, a possible Dan Henderson versus Fedor Emelianenko bout was being discussed by fans and pundits alike.
Henderson has brought up the subject of a possible fight with Fedor in the past, telling Sherdog.com, "To me, he’s not the reason I signed with Strikeforce just to fight him…although that is interesting and appealing to me to be able to challenge myself against him. I don’t know who else wants to fight him, but I do know the fans like to see him fight. He’s very effective and likes to finish guys and does a very good job. I think him and I would make an interesting matchup.”
Now that he is the Strikeforce champion, the interest in a fight against Fedor has not abated for Henderson, "Obviously, he's still one of the top guys out there in the world, and it would be a huge challenge," Henderson recently told MMAJunkie.com Radio.
As far as Fedor having interest in facing Henderson, Fighters Only is reporting that "Sources close to the Russian (Fedor) say he is giving serious consideration to the prospect of fighting newly crowned Dan Henderson at 205 pounds."
Right now, a fight between Henderson and Fedor is pure speculation. If that fight does not transpire, it is likely that Henderson will face the winner of the Gegard Mousasi versus Mike Kyle in his first title defense.
Mousasi versus Kyle is set to take place on April 9th in San Diego, California.
