WrestleMania XXVII: McMahon's Plan to Trick Cena-Haters
I'm sure fans of the Attitude Era are stoked to see The Rock back on Monday Night Raw. Some of them might even look at this as a way to veer the WWE away from the PG rating. So far, that's exactly what's been happening.
Also, a lot of Rocky fans are looking at this as a way for the WWE to bury John Cena, because that's been happening over the past few weeks.
But really, does anyone think that Vince McMahon is gonna bury his money maker?
When The Rock made his triumphant return, every fan was happy to see him. Using all of his old catchphrases, not all of them PG-rated, Rocky was electrifying again to some fans, and for the first time to some new fans.
Towards the end of his epic return promo, he took a huge shot at the face of the WWE, John Cena. When he mentioned that the person talking trash about him was in fact Cena, a loud pack of boos were heard. These boos came from the Attitude Era fans, which are the fans that still held on to WWE, even though they don't care for Cena.
The Rock made fun of his catchphrase and his choice of attire, something that in the past has only been done by the heels. Anyway, his shot at Cena got over hugely with most of the crowd, not just the Cena-haters.
So could this be the end of John Cena as we know it?
The following show, Friday Night Smackdown, Cena participated in a 12-man tag team match. On his way to the ring, there were a large amount of boos directed at him.
When he was tagged into the match, the boos were still there. During the Elimination Chamber PPV, the boos were out on Cena big time.
This was all because of The Rock.
Not only by trashing Cena, but just coming back in general, Rocky got everyone, including current mainstream fans that pay to see Cena, on his bandwagon.
Fans were on the Rocky bandwagon until the following Monday Night Raw. Cena cut his first promo involving The Rock, and addressed him in the form of rap. Cena's promo wasn't exactly PG-rated either.
Some of his quotes included, "You're not gonna whip my candy ass, I'll make sure you kiss it." And also, "I'm a purple pinwheel; you can go ahead and blow me."
Most fans seemed to enjoy that promo; other fans seemed to think it was still Cena being corny.
Even though The Rock’s fans didn’t care for Cena’s promo, they still didn’t care for the one Rocky made on Cena the week later. Rocky showed up to Raw, but on the jumbo-tron. I think The Rock not actually showing up to Raw irked most of the fans, even the ones who love him and hate Cena. Not having the decency to show up in person really put him in a hole during this feud with Cena.
But because of The Rock’s iconic status, it’s likely he’ll end up on top of this feud going into WrestleMania.
With all of this commotion, a lot of fans believe that Rocky and Cena are gonna have it out like men. That might be true; they might do just that before WrestleMania. The Rock might hit Cena with a Rock Bottom, or Cena might hit Rocky with an Attitude Adjustment. Either way, I don't think it's going to happen at WrestleMania.
It's more than likely that Cena will win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania (track record says it's gonna happen). Also, it's highly likely The Rock will be involved in this match somehow. Since he's been back, all he's been talking about is Cena.
If Cena wins and The Rock is nearby, what's the most likely scenario to happen? Rocky hits him with a Rock Bottom? No. That's not what I think is up McMahon's sleeve. The Rock will likely raise Cena's hand in victory to close the show. So where does this leave the fans?
The Rock raising the hand of John Cena at the end of WrestleMania will put the Cena-hating fans in quite a predicament. On one hand, they love The Rock and they're glad he's back. On the other hand, Cena wins the WWE Championship again at WrestleMania.
When it’s looked at, the fans can’t cheer for The Rock and boo John Cena at the same time. The way I see it is that it’s a trick being played on those particular fans. Those fans now would have no choice but to cheer for Cena.
This whole thing to me seems like a ploy to get every fan off of the Cena-hating bandwagon for good.
