Friday night, the Jaspers opposed the Canisius College Golden Griffins for the first of two road games this weekend. It was all Canisius for the first nine minutes of the game, as the Golden Griffins controlled with a 22-10 lead with eleven minutes left in the first half. Manhattan responded with seventeen unanswered points over a span of four minutes to take a 27-22 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half. Frank Turner, who led Canisius with 18 points, put an end to the Jaspers' run with a layup. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the half, and Manhattan held a 38-35 halftime lead.
Rashad Green capped off a 10-2 Jaspers run, to start off the second half, with an old-fashioned three-point play. Canisius used the home-crowd to their advantage, and pulled within one of the Jaspers, but committed an offensive foul on an inbounds pass down three points with twenty-one seconds left in the game. Patrick Bouli hit a foul shot to put Manhattan up 69-65, and Canisius could not respond. The Manhattan College Jaspers picked up their first road win in conference play, and are now 8-7 (2-3 MAAC).
Despite shooting 3 of 9 from the field, Darryl Crawford led the Jaspers with 14 points as he shot 7 of 9 from the charity stripe. Rashad Green recorded his first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Devon Austin and Chris Smith each had 11 points. Manhattan scored 69 points in the victory, their season average, as they shot 50% from the field, and 74% from the foul line.
For Canisius, Frank Turner led all scorers with 18 points. Jovan Robinson had 15 points including 4 three-pointers.
The Jaspers will be hosted by Charron Fisher and the Purple Eagles of Niagara University this Sunday at 2pm.
