2011 NFL Mock Draft: How Far Are Nick Fairley, Ryan Mallett Falling?
Joe Robbins/Getty Images
As we wait for word on weather or not there will be a new collective bargaining agreement, we look to the NFL draft to save us from all the labor talks.
The combine has passed, so now we make a few changes to our draft boards. Some guys fell and others took a leap forward.
I try not to pay too much attention to the combine because, hey, anybody can get out there and perform well in a t-shirt and gym shorts. What a player does on the field in pads is what I am concerned with.
A lot can happen between now and April 28th, so who knows where players end up. Prospects still have their pro day to try and climb up on the boards.
So, without further ado here is my 2011 NFL Mock Draft. As always, I welcome your thoughts.

Will the Packers Upgrade their Backfield?
I have the Packers upgrading a skill position by taking Ryan Williams.
Ryan Grant suffered a season-ending injury in 2010 and it made the Packers one-dimensional. Granted, they were fine that way, because Aaron Rodgers is one heck of a quarterback.
By taking Williams here, the Packers add some much needed depth at the running back position, should Grant get hurt again.
Grant will be coming back from an ankle injury, and there's no telling how well he'll do. Selecting Williams here gives the Packers some speed in the backfield and makes them even more dangerous in 2011.

Will the Steelers Draft Mike Pouncey and Form a Line of Brothers?
The Steelers had issues with a lack of depth on their offensive line this past season and Pouncey would provide them with great help. We saw how well his brother played, so one has to believe the twin will be just as good.
He would pair up with this twin brother Maurkice and together they would open holes for Reshard Mendenhall and make sure Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t have to scramble too much.

Will the Jets go Defense or Offense?
Jordan is a versatile defensive lineman who is a great fit in the 3-4 scheme. He would fit right in wit the Jets defensive as he gives them a guy who will come off the edge to get the QB. Jordan would play the end position and also contribute with stopping the run.
The Jets could use an upgrade on their defensive front and Jordan is the perfect guy for them. He may not be here in a lot of drafts but they way mine has worked out this 3-4 DE falls to the Jets, instantly making their defense better.

WIll the Bears Draft for the Future or Give Jay Cutler More Weapons?
The Bears defensive front isn’t getting any younger. One has to wonder how much Julius Peppers has left in the tank. It would be smart for Chicago to draft Heyward here and mold him into a strong defensive end. Heyward is a great fit for the 4-3 and has NFL blood in him as his father was Craig “Iron Head” Heyward.
He’s a guy who is great at stopping the run as well as rushing the passer. He could learn a ton being behind Peppers.

Will the Patriots trade or keep this pick?
The Patriots could very well trade this pick in the draft to a team looking to jump up or back into the first round. But if they do pick here it would be a wise choice to upgrade the receiving core.
Randall Cobb surprised people with a 4.4 40-yard-dash time and because of his versatility he would be a great fit for the Patriots. They don’t have a tall wide out but it doesn’t really matter with Tom Brady in the pocket. Bill Belichick could do a lot with Cobb.

Will the Falcons Draft a Wide Out or Upgrade their Defensive Line?
Houston is the hometown kid that would fit in really well with the Falcons. He's better suited for a 4-3 defense, which is what he played in his first few years at Georgia. He can play the 3-4 OLB, but needs work on his coverage.
His best quality is getting after the quarterback, which is an area of need for the Falcons.
Aaron Rodgers had all the time in the world to pick apart Atlanta's secondary during its playoff game. Drafting Houston gives Atlanta a player that will constantly provide pressure to the opposing QB.

Will the Ravens Draft a Play Maker?
Harris is a playmaker, and the Ravens are all about that. They certainly need help in the secondary, as guys are getting older.
Harris can make noise in the return game while he develops his skills as a corner. He'll see the field in 2011 (if we have football), but it will only be in certain packages and, obviously, returning kicks.
Harris has that electrifying quality that guys are just born with. It is a skill that you just cannot teach.

Does Jake Locker Stay Home in Seattle?
Locker did his part at the combine and showed he is a great athelete. He threw the ball well, which is what scouts needed to see. He’s still the fourth best QB in the draft but after the Vikings no other team really needs a QB this early in the draft, except Seattle.
Locker can sit behind Hassleback and learn what it takes to be an NFL starter. It’s the best situation for Locker to go to as he can still stay in the same area he played college ball.

Will the Saints Follow the Trend of Drafting from the Defensive Line?
The Saints aren’t very good at getting after the quarterback. Their whole defensive line needs to improve in 2011. Clayborn is NFL ready with exceptional moves and superb awareness. He would excel for the Saints and help restore this defense.
1. Carolina: Da'Quan Bowers, DE | 17. New England(from Oakland): J.J. Watt, DE |

Will the Eagles Go Offense or Defense?
Aldon Smith is the best available player for the Eagles in my mock draft. He’s got excellent versatility and would fit nicely in the Eagles 4-3 scheme. Smith loves to get in the backfield and disrupt plays.
It is an area that the Eagles could use improvement on as the look to repeat as NFC East champs. Upgrading the defense is a must, and with Smith that is what they’re getting.

Will the Colts Take the Best Lineman from 2010 College Football?
The 2010 Outland Trophy Winner would seriously improve the offensive line for the Colts. This pick would certainly please Peyton Manning because he would have some more protection. Manning was flustered a lot this year and the addition of Carimi would give him another big guy to keep him safe.
Carimi paved way for the three-headed monster that was Wisconsin’s run game. He could step in and help the Colts run game prosper.

Will the Cheifs Draft the Linebacker from UCLA?
With the possibility of Tamba Hali leaving via free agency, the Chiefs must find a replacement. Kansas City must also soon find a replacement for Mike Vrabel.
Ayers is a solid fit for the Chiefs. He has the size and speed to play off the edge in Kansas City's 3-4 scheme.
Ayers can rush the passer, stop the run and drop into coverage. He is a versatile athlete that will contribute right away for this defense.

Will the Buccaneers Improve Their Pass Rush?
Tampa Bay needs a lot of help on their defense, especially on the line. They have a weak pass rushing attack and drafting Kerrigan will greatly improve that.
Kerrigan’s specialty is getting after the QB and when you go up against Matt Ryan and Drew Brees twice a year you have to slow those guys down somehow. Kerrigan gives the Bucs a much-needed upgrade at defensive end.

Is Anthony Castonzo a Perfect fit in New York?
Castonzo is 6'7", 305 pounds and has great mobility for his size. He'll definitely put on more weight once he is drafted.
Castonzo will protect Eli Manning and give him much more time to throw the ball. Hopefully, Eli will make a smart throw. Pass blocking is his strength and that is an area of need for the Giants.
Besides, with a name like Castonzo, he just belongs in New York.

Will the Chargers Get Extra Protection for Phillip Rivers?
Phillip Rivers could use some extra protection, especially on his blindside. Smith is now up to 307 pounds, which is good news because at USC he was only 285. Smith has great potential to be a very good offensive lineman.
He can move well and would also provide great room for Ryan Matthews and Mike Tolbert to run around. Smith will continue to get better and grow in the NFL. He is a great fit for San Diego.
