When I looked at the lines for week 5, I thought the Florida vs Ole Miss game was a mistake. Although the game was being played in Florida and the Gators are ranked #4, it is still a SEC matchup and Ole Miss is known to give Florida fits. Not to mention, Houston Nutt is known to beat teams that he is not favored to beat (See LSU vs Arkansas 2007).
Once I realized the lines I was looking at was not a mistake my thought was that the odds makers made a mistake on this one. We all know Ole Miss is not that good of a team, but numbers do not reveal the emotion of the game. Anyone who keeps up with SEC football would have taken Ole Miss at -22 (except Florida fans).
Ole Miss not only covered but the Rebels went into the Swamp and beat Florida 31-30. Florida is a good team and before this game many people would have put them ranked #1 in place of USC but you have to consider one thing and that is Tim Tebow is on the radar. Although Tim Tebow is one of the best College Football players in NCAA, people are now aware what he can do. When the game is on the line and it is 4th & 1, teams expect Tim Tebow and Ole Miss was prepared to stop him in this situation and did so.
With both Florida and USC losing this week, it will be interesting to see who is ranked #1 and of course there is a match-up in Athens, GA that will play a factor on this weeks rankings.
Take a look at an article I posted this week in which I suggested why you should take Ole Miss at -22.
