College Football Week Five Predictions: Spread and Straight Up

Kevin Thomas@K_Mart10Contributor IISeptember 27, 2008

In Week Four, I went 6-3 against the spread and 5-4 straight up. Not a bad week. Now I am 16-15-1 against the spread and 31-12 straight up for the season.

Saturday

Michigan State at Indiana (+8.5)

Michigan State RB Javon Ringer is piling up carries and yards and is making a strong Heisman push. He will keep it up today against the Hoosiers.

Winner: (Spread) Michigan St, (Straight Up) Michigan St

Virginia at Duke (-7)

David Cutcliffe has things going in the right direction in Durham behind QB Thaddeus Lewis, RB Robert Boyle, and WR Erron Riley. Virginia is just awful. The Blue Devils will snap their ACC losing streak today against the Cavaliers.

Winner: (Spread) Duke, (Straight Up) Duke

North Carolina at Miami (-7.5)

The Hurricanes looked good against Florida two weeks ago and dismantled Texas A&M last week. North Carolina has lost its starting QB, so the Heels will go down today.

Winner: (Spread) Miami, (Straight Up) Miami

Virginia Tech at Nebraska (-7)

Virginia Tech is coming off a big win last week against North Carolina and will keep rolling over Bo Pelini's troops.

Winner: (Spread) Virginia Tech, (Straight Up) Virginia Tech

Alabama at Georgia (-6.5)

The Tide has looked good this season and has already knocked off a top ten team when they took down then No. 9 Clemson to open the season. The Dawgs have looked a little sluggish at times but looked good last week against Arizona State. I've just got a feeling about Alabama.

Winner: (Spread) Alabama, (Straight Up) Alabama

Tennessee at Auburn (-6.5)

The Vols have looked terrible this year, especially last week against Florida. The Tigers are coming off a tough loss to LSU and will come out mad and fired up.

Winner: (Spread) Auburn, (Straight Up) Auburn

Wisconsin at Michigan (+5)

P.J. Hill will run all over the Wolverines today.

Winner: (Spread) Wisconsin, (Straight Up) Wisconsin

Maryland at Clemson (-11)

The Tigers have looked pretty good since losing to Alabama to open the season. The Terps have looked better since losing to Middle Tennessee State. The last time the Terps played in "Death Valley," they beat the Tigers and kept them out of the ACCCG. The Tigers will come out fired up today.

Winner: (Spread) Clemson, (Straight Up) Clemson

Alabama-Birmingham at South Carolina (-26.5)

I'm not so sure the Gamecocks can even score 27 points.

Winner: (Spread) Alabama Birmingham, (Straight Up) South Carolina

Arkansas at Texas (-27.5)

The Razorbacks have looked terrible so far this season, while the Longhorns have been putting up big numbers on everybody behind Heisman hopeful Colt McCoy.

Winner: (Spread) Texas, (Straight Up) Texas

Oregon at Washington State (+21)

The Ducks have scored on everyone this year and the Cougars have been giving up points to everyone this year, including a 66-3 loss to California.

Winner: (Spread) Oregon, (Straight Up) Oregon
