Howard Bryant's Arrest: ESPN Contributor in Hot Water After Domestic Dispute
Howard Bryant's Arrest Takes Another Turn As ESPN Analyst Pleads Not Guilty
Howard Bryant may or may not be in some serious trouble. It all depends on whose side of the story you believe. Cops and witnesses say Bryant fought with his estranged wife and then resisted arrest. Bryant and his wife Veronique say that is all false.
Bryant entered a plea of not guilty Monday to charges including domestic assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Bryant was seen at a pizza shop Saturday afternoon in the town of Buckland, Massachusetts. That is when a worker at the pizza parlor called the police. She claims to have seen a man she identified as Bryant holding a woman, later identified as Bryant's estranged wife, against the car.
That is when police showed up to detain Bryant. They charge that Howard resisted arrest when cops tried to cuff him. Bryant tells an entirely different tale, "I raised my hands over my head so they wouldn't shoot me...They smashed my head on the car and pulled my sweatshirt hood up over my head."
His wife has even sided with the ESPN commentator. She told news outlets, "It wasn't an assault or a battery. I was not scared. He was not touching me. We had a discussion. The police reacted in a totally inappropriate way."
That is contrary to eye witness reports that say they saw a man identified as Bryant holding his wife by her neck and speaking in a heated manner.
Bryant is free on $5,000 bail at the moment. He will return to court again on April 21st for a pre-trial conference. ESPN has not yet released much. Spokesman Josh Krulewitz said, “We are gathering information about it.”
