Jorge Rivera's team is claiming that Michael Bisping did more than throw some unkind words in their direction after Bisping defeated Rivera by second-round TKO at UFC 127.
The Rivera camp is claiming that in addition to the verbal abuse he threw their way, Bisping literally spat in their general direction.
Video footage seems to confirm this fact as Bisping can be seem approaching the cage, pointing and spitting at someone following his victory on Saturday, February 26th.
For his part, Bisping claims that team Rivera was not spat upon—intentionally, at least. Speaking to MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani, Bisping said, "I was spitting on the floor to him to let him know what I thought of him, and I apologize for that, I’d never want to act like that. I apologize for losing my cool."
Bisping continued, "He talked a lot of things, he said a lot of things, he mocked me for the world to see. And I tried to bite my tongue and take the higher ground, but once I started letting my fists fly, it was like the floodgates of emotion opened and it all came boiling out. I said something and I was spitting on the floor to let him know what I thought of him. I didn’t mean to spit though, so I do apologize.”
Rivera's camp has called for the UFC to punish Bisping for his post UFC 127 behavior.
