The Cal Men's Basketball program was placed on two years probation on Friday for making over 300 impermissible phone calls.

Because Mike Montgomery and the Cal athletic department had already reported the majority of the violations and self-imposed sanctions, the Bears were issued only minimal penalties by the NCAA.

One Cal assistant was ruled to have made 212 impermissible calls while another made 107. Montgomery met with the NCAA Infractions Committee in Indianapolis in December to discuss the matter.

Besides being placed on probation for two years, Cal is limited to five official visits for the next two academic years as well as being given a public reprimand and censure.
