Veteran Tight End Jeremy Shockey was released by the New Orleans Saints today. Shockey, a 9 year vet, has 510 receptions for 5,688 yards and 33 TDs in his career.

Miami should jump on Shockey as soon as possible. With no Collective Bargaining Agreement in place, the Dolphins will have until March 3rd to sign him.

The veteran still has some good years left in him and would contribute greatly to the Dolphins. Shockey would give Miami a big tight end that blocks well and is still a threat in the receiving game, something that Miami lacks in current tight end Anthony Fasano.

He would also come cheap. There are not many good tight ends are out there that are available for Miami. The only one would be Oakland Raiders tight end Zach Miller, but Miller isn't going to come cheap.

Shockey would be great for Brian Daboll's offensive scheme that focuses on tight ends and power running. He would give Daboll someone who can block and also catch the short pass.

He would fill one of Miami's many offensive needs this off-season—the others being running back, quarterback and offensive lineman.

Shockey previously played for the New York Giants from 2002-2007, where he was selected with the 14th overall pick and won the Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award. Shockey has played in New Orleans the past 3 years and won a Super Bowl in 2009.
