UEFA Champions League: Lyon 0-0 Real Madrid, Halftime
Well, it's halftime. Not much to say about this so far--it hasn't been an exceedingly boring half, but it certainly hasn't lived up to my expectations. Madrid came out flat, especially in defense; the OL looked pretty good on the counter, but ceded much of the possession to los blancos.
This isn't the type of game Madrid wants to play. Against a team like this, you need to control the tempo: I understand Mourinho's decision to favor offense and use the Xabi-Khedira pivot, but I still think that a midfield trivot, with Xabi-Lass-Khedira would work better for this purpose.
Özil has been largely a non-factor, partly because he has been hammered throughout the match. Time and again the Frenchmen have crushed the young German--I'm not saying that he hasn't gotten the calls (he has, most of the time), just that this is clearly the strategy Lyon are taking against him.
Cristiano has been good when he touches the ball, though he still has a tendency to disappear from time to time--his free kick was arguably Madrid's best chance that wasn't called back. Adebayor looked good from what I could see, though I imagine Benzema must be itching to get on.
Should be an interesting second half--looking forward to spending it with everyone. Hala Madrid!
