Unbelievable!: Oregon State Football Takes Down Top-Ranked USC
Sorry, what was that again? You heard that correctly. Only a couple of weeks after being crushed in Happy Valley, Oregon State changed the map of college football by beating top-ranked USC Thursday, 27-21, in another blissful midweek college football game.
Why did it change the map? Because now Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Alabama, and, er, Ohio State can now look in on potentially being No. 1 again.
But seriously, who would have thought that tiny freshman O-State running back Jacquizz Rodgers would run for 186 yards and two touchdowns against a team that throttled Ohio State just a week and a half ago?
Who would have thought that Oregon State would be up, 21-0, at the break, in a game eerily reminiscent of 2006's game, when they were up by 23 at the half and managed to squeak out the victory?
You would predict that USC would come flying back. It did. However, one messy interception from Mark Sanchez—which set up the winning touchdown from Rodgers—and a recovered onside kick in the last second, won the game for the Beavers, who could have won by more had it not to been for a blocked field goal and extra point.
Kirk Herbstreit said that the only team that can beat USC is USC. Herbstreit is wrong. The only team that can beat USC is Oregon State. And the Beavers deserved it, too.
