Manchester United Legends: Is Cristiano Ronaldo the Best of Them All?

This comes as a response to Ferguson's recent call to Ronaldo "to leave a legend".

The legends of Manchester United ring down a hall of footballing history as some of the greatest to ever play the game.

Whether it be Eric Cantona, who had the skills of a deadly midfielder and the grace of fleet footed forward, as United's striker. Or the likes of Bobby Charlton and David Beckham who might not be one of the most skilled and talented players but certainly was important in United's triumphs.

The greatest Manchester United legend is "doubtedly" George Best, the winger with dazzling control and mesmerizing goals.

The "doubtedly" under Best's name has now come into effect largely due to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Also noticiable is the similarities between the descriptions for Best's qualities and Ronaldo's. Although Ronaldo hasn't even reached the mid point of his career he has already shattered the limits set by history including Best's goal tally for a midfielder which Ronaldo shattered last term, and the accolades and trophies he has won for United.

If Ronaldo was to walk out of the door tomorrow for United he will have left doing something no player in Manchester United's or English football has ever accomplished.

His current tenure with United has seen him so far collect a Carling Cup, an FA Cup, a Champions League, two Premier League titles, twice player of the year (one of which was followed by a younger player of the year, only done before by Andy Gray), Champions League player of the year, C.L best forward, and almost a certain FIFA and Ballon'Or later on this year.

With that bag of accomplishments what is left?

The same question could be asked of others but none have scored 42 goals in a season  the way Ronaldo did it. He has already solidified his place on the mantle of legends and in this writer's opinion surpassed even the great George Best.

Others might remember him for the dives and controversies but if close your eyes to the beauty than you will forever be blind of true football.

So open your eyes, watch the legend of Ronaldo grow and enjoy.
