NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2011: Predicting The First Round Outcome
NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2011: Event Info, Dunk Highlights, Reactions and More
The first round of the dunk contest features Blake Griffin, JaVale McGee, Serge Ibaka and Demar DeRozan.
The Judges should be infatuated with anything Blake Griffin does at this point unless he absolutely bombs, which seems highly unlikely. So that basically leaves one spot in the finals open for the other three dunkers.
I see JaVale McGee trying something ridiculous, like a windmill from just inside the free-throw line, or a slick Jordan-esq rock-the-cradle from a bit too far out, but not getting it. In the end he will have to throw down his emergency dunk at some point just to put points up on the board, so I don't see him advancing.
That leaves DeRozan and Ibaka.
I, honestly, have no clue what Ibaka is planning to do. I see some powerful dunks coming from the young man, but nothing compared to Dwight Howard in years past, so I don't think the judges will be overly impressed by him.
DeRozan has been there before, and has been stung by the “runner-up” title, so I think he will pull out all the stops to get back to the finals.
That sets up a Griffin-DeRozan finals.
