There's a Scotty Hopson dunk video making its way across the sports world this morning, after the Tennessee high-flyer delivered an old-school posterizing dunk (with an old-school flat top) against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday night.
The Vols led the Gamecocks 37-35 with just over 16 minutes to go in the half, when Tobias Harris pulled down a defensive rebound, starting the Tennessee fast break.
The forward lobbed a perfect pass to Hopson, who caught it in stride and accelerated toward the basket.
He elevated just outside the key, but South Carolina guard Brian Richardson stood between the Vols' guard and a beautiful dunk.
However, Hopson flashed his athleticism on the play, elevating over Richardson and dropping a thunderous slam on the freshman. The crowd went wild, energized by Hopson's slam, while Richardson joined a long list of college players posterized by the dynamic Volunteer.
Hopson has been an essential scorer for Tennessee this season, averaging 16.8 points per game. He's battled some inconsistency issues, but as we saw Wednesday night, when the flat top gets going, he's awfully tough to stop.
Combine that scoring touch with a high-top fade that is one of the best throwback styles in recent memory, and it's clear why Hopson sticks out on the court.
The junior dropped 23 points on the Gamecocks in this one, as Tennessee snapped a three-game losing streak with the 73-67 win.
