Jadeveon Clowney Announces That He Will Attend The University of South Carolina

In a move that didn't really surprise anyone, Jadeveon Clowney announced on Sportscenter this morning that he will be attending South Carolina next year.

Clowney was expected to make his announcement on National Signing Day on February 2, but chose to hold off and announce his decision today, his 18th birthday.

South Carolina was long considered the favorite for the five star defensive end since he was born and raised in the state. He narrowed his choices down to South Carolina, Clemson and Alabama. Over the course of the last two weeks it became clear that Alabama was a long shot, and that it was going to come down to South Carolina and Clemson.

Clemson would have been an interesting choice because their recruiting class was already one of the best in the nation, and adding the top player in the recruiting class would have pushed them over the top.

Instead he chose to go with the school that was the favorite this whole time. There was no drama, aside from the announcement being delayed almost two weeks.

Clowney was named South Carolina's Mr. Football in 2010 for his fantastic senior season in high school. He had 162 total tackles, 29.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, six fumbles recovered and five defensive touchdowns.

He will help bolster a South Carolina defense that ranked 43rd in scoring defense in 2010. They did win their first SEC East title, but were blown out by the eventual National Champion Auburn Tigers 56-17 in the SEC Championship game.
