We have reached the end of the week and there's a ton of sports news to get to.
The NBA is still reeling from the news that Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan has resigned from the team. The news seemed to come out of nowhere, but there have been issues between he and Deron Williams.
It's hard to imagine that would lead him to walk away from a franchise he has been leading since 1988. We will look at where the Jazz go from here and what this could mean for Williams' future.
In other NBA news, Ray Allen surpassed Reggie Miller as the most prolific three-point shooter in NBA history last night. Allen's career total of 2,562 three-point field goals made is two more than Miller made in his NBA career.
We will look at his career and how he ranks compared to some of the other great shooters in NBA history.
Maria Sharapova, the former top-ranked female tennis player in the world, has had to pull out of the Open Gaz De France Tournament thanks to some lingering effects of a viral illness. Has the 23-year-old passed the prime of her career? She hasn't won a grand slam tournament since 2008 and has fallen to No. 13 in the world rankings.
We will have updates on all the day's sports news as it becomes available. It's a jam packed Friday, and stick with us here all day for the latest news and analysis.

Clay Matthews Is The Busiest Man In America, And The Next Stop On His Whirlwind Tour Is At The Grammy Awards
Clay Matthews has had quite an extraordinary week. First, he wins his first Super Bowl when the Packers defeated the Steelers, 31-25, last Sunday. Then, he made an appearance at the WWE Smackdown tapings on Tuesday.
Now, you can add Grammy Award presenter to the long list of events Matthews has been a part of since last Sunday.
Yes, the Green Bay Packers linebacker is going to present an award at this Sunday's Grammy Awards.
He doesn't know what award he is going to be presenting, but he does have at least a general idea of who he would like to present with. "All I asked is if they could set me up with a smoking, single actress." Matthews said on The Dan Patrick Show on Friday.
Surely, the people who put the presenters together can come up with someone who matches that criteria.
One person that matches all of Matthews' criteria is Desperate Housewife cast member Eva Longoria. There's not a man alive that wouldn't love to present any award with her. Perhaps Matthews and Longoria could form the new power couple, with him conquering the NFL and her just being her.
Either way, Matthews has had an amazing week, one that most people can only dream of, and he is taking full advantage of his new found celebrity.
Hopefully, we won't have to wait very long to see him back doing what he does best, play linebacker. Given the NFL's current labor situation, it seems unlikely, but it's still early in the process.

Tonya Harding Is Expecting Her First Child With Husband Joseph Price
Tonya Harding, 42, is expecting her first child with her husband Joseph Price. Once one of the top figure skaters in the world, Harding has become a joke in recent years.
Harding's downfall started at the 1994 Olympics, when her then husband Jeff Gillooly and two other men attacked her rival Nancy Kerrigan during a practice session. Though she wasn't directly involved in the attack, she had knowledge of it and was banned from the United States Figure Skating Association as a result.
Her time in the spotlight wasn't over yet though. Fortunately, the world was given the gift of a sex tape featuring Harding and Gillooly on their wedding night. Not even horror master Wes Craven himself could have come up with a more terrifying concept for a movie.
Then, in the early 2000's she saw a career revival, of sorts. She turned to professional boxing after winning a fight against Paula Jones on the FOX show "Celebrity Boxing." Her career in the ring ended in 2004 after just six fights, and compiling a 3-3 record.
In 2004, she made a memorable appearance on Dan Patrick's national radio show when he was working for ESPN, saying "I'm not gonna make a skeptical out of my boxing career." That was one of the great soundbites in sports talk radio history.
But she has put all the nonsense behind her now, and she is ready to become a mother. I think I speak for all the world when I say that hopefully she doesn't make a "skeptical" of her new career as a mother.

Tiger Woods Makes A Charge Up The Leaderboard In The Second Round At Dubai, But How Far Back Is He?
Tiger Woods made a big move up the leaderboard today at the Dubai Desert Classic. He shot a 6-under 66 to move to 7-under for the tournament. It's Woods' best round since last December at the Chevron World Challenge.
Woods is four shots behind the leader, Rory McIlroy, who fired a 4-under 68 on Friday, a day after shooting a 7-under 65 on Thursday. McIlory is looking for his first victory since last May.
There's another familiar name in second place after two rounds: Sergio Garcia. After taking a lot of time off last season, and not just because he was missing cuts, Garcia has been impressive thus far. He sits at 10-under, just one stroke behind McIlroy going into the weekend.
Garcia had really fallen on hard times the last couple of years, so it's good to see him back and performing well in a tournament.
Thomas Aiken is tied with Garcia for second place at 10-under. Steve Webster is at 8-under, and then Tiger is among five golfers at 7-under.
For Tiger, the key to his success on Friday was his putting. He didn't have one bogey in the second round. We have seen glimpses of him finding his old form before, but he has never been able to hold on to it throughout a tournament.
His performance Friday was a step in the right direction, but it's not enough. We will have to see how he performs on Saturday and Sunday to see how close he really is to being all the way back.

Tiger Woods Makes A Charge Up The Leaderboard In The Second Round Of The Dubai Desert Classic
Tiger Woods hasn't won a tournament since 2009, but he is making a push to end that streak this weekend at the Dubai Desert Classic.
He fired a bogey free 6-under par 66 in the second round today, and is currently 7-under for the tournament. He is four shots behind the leader, Rory McIlroy, heading into the weekend.
We must temper our expectations of Tiger a little bit because he started out strong at The Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago, only to falter on Saturday and Sunday.
The key for Tiger to be successful is, and always has been, his ability to putt the ball. He has a ton of power in his swing, but he has never been the most accurate driving the ball. He would make up for that on the greens when he was dominating the world.
During this year long slump, he hasn't been able to drive the ball well at all, and his putting has failed him constantly. It's a very big step for him to play a bogey free round, like he did today.
That will help build his confidence and could lead to a victory. He still has ground to make up, but at least we can see that there are signs of progress in Tiger's game.
Tiger only has two months left before The Masters, and you know that he is going to want to have a great showing there. This could be the beginning of big things to come for him in 2011, or it could be one of those fluke rounds and he falls right back into his bad habits.
We will know more tomorrow when he tees off for the third round.

Is Brett Favre Going To Do "Dancing With The Stars?"
After a few days of rumors and speculation, Brett Favre could very well find himself a cast member of the next season of "Dancing With The Stars." ABC still has yet to announce the cast for the new season, which starts March 21, but there seems to be enough smoke surrounding Favre's name to at least mention it.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the show, I won't lie I have never watched an episode of it because I loathe any kind of reality television, it's not that hard to figure out the concept. A bunch of B-, C- and D-list celebrities are paired with a professional dancer, and each week one of them gets voted off.
Somehow this kind of show draws in 20 million viewers each week.
But I digress. This looks like another case of a washed up person wanting to do whatever they have to so they can keep their name in the headlines. We all know that he is a primadonna and loves the spotlight, which makes this pairing a match made in lame television Heaven.
What does Favre have to gain by doing a show like this? I highly doubt that he can dance, but some people tend to surprise you.
Perhaps it's his way of being able to poke fun at himself and get back in the good graces of the fans. Whatever the reason is, this whole thing just reeks of him having to do whatever is necessary to stay relevant in the eyes of the public.
It's no secret that this has been a rough year for Favre, on and off the field. He was a disappointment in 2010, after having arguably the best year of his career in 2009. His consecutive games started streak ended, and now he is basically being forced into retirement.
Then of course, there was the whole Jenn Sterger situation and the memorable Super Bowl win by Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
Times have been tough for Favre. Maybe "Dancing With The Stars" will be his way to take the spotlight away from his former employer.

NFL Owners Unhappy With The Latest Labor Proposals From The NFLPA
According to a report on ESPN.com, the NFL owners walked out on the negotiations with the NFL Players Association, basically looking at their latest proposal as a slap in the face.
The two sides were scheduled to talk for seven hours, but the walk out forced the meetings to end much earlier than that. If a new deal isn't reached before March 3 the owners will lockout the players.
Fans don't have to start worrying until August-September, that's when we could be in danger of losing regular season games.
The main sticking point in this whole negotiation is $1 billion. The owners want the players to give up $1 billion, and they will divide up the remaining $7 billion in revenue that the league is estimated to have gotten.
DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFL Players Association, was on ESPN Radio's 'Mike & Mike In The Morning' on Super Bowl Sunday, and said that he would be willing to negotiate that kind of deal so long as the NFLPA was able to get a look at all the owners financial books.
The owners are claiming that they are losing money, and that this additional money will make it easier on them to put together a successful product.
Given that the owners are walking out on the players during these negotiating sessions doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that a deal will get done any time soon.
Hopefully, the two sides can get back together soon and hash their differences out. If they can't, it could be a long time before we see an NFL game again.

Tiger Woods Made A Big Move In The Second Round Of The Dubai Desert Classic
Tiger Woods is hoping that history doesn't repeat itself this weekend. Two weeks ago, Woods was in contention at The Farmers Insurance Open, but he faded in the final two rounds to finish tied for 44th.
This week, Woods started out shooting a 1-under 71 in the first round at the Dubai Desert Classic yesterday. In the second round, he exploded to shoot a 6-under 66, and move to within three shots of the leaders. The best part of the round for Woods is that he didn't have one bogey.
It's the best single round that he has had since the second round of the Chevron World Challenge last December when he shot a 66.
The key for Woods was his putting. He struggled with it two weeks ago, and that turned out to be his undoing in that tournament. Today, he was able to find his stroke on the greens and it was an impressive round.
But Woods can't be satisfied with this round. He has to maintain this kind of performance going into the weekend. We know that he's capable of putting together a great round, but can he hold on to it for all four rounds?
There's no doubt that this is a major step forward in Woods' progress to get back to his old form, but it's still too early to say if this is real or if this is a one time thing.
Hopefully, he's able to build on this round, and keep the positive energy that he had working for him on Friday. Whether you like it or not, golf is just much more interesting when Tiger is in contention.

Is Ray Allen The Best Pure Shooter In NBA History?
In case you missed it, Ray Allen surpassed Reggie Miller's NBA record for career 3-point field goals made last night in the Celtics 92-86 loss to the Lakers last night. He went 3-for-8 from beyond the arc in the game, moving his career total to 2,562 3-pointers made.
For a long time Allen has been one of the best pure shooters in the NBA, and he has one of the best looking shots that you will ever see.
But where does his shooting prowess rank in the history of the NBA?
There have been a number of great shooters throughout the history of the league, but who are the best of the best?
There's no doubt that Allen ranks up near the top, but the best pure shooter that I have seen in my life, granted that's only 25 years, is Steve Kerr.
Kerr didn't have a lot of other skills on the court, but he had the prettiest form on his shot, and he was so smooth when he took a shot.
In Kerr's career, he shot 48 percent from the field, and 45 percent from 3-point range. He had four seasons where he shot over 50 percent from deep range, and 11 seasons shooting over 40 percent.
He had such a short, quick release, and it was so pinpoint. There was no one who looked better taking a shot than Kerr was.
Allen has a short, quick release with great arc on the ball, but there was just something about watching Kerr shoot the ball that was like poetry in motion.
What about you guys? Who do you think had the best pure shot in the history of the NBA, and why?

Maria Sharapova Is Only 23 Years Old, But Her Tennis Prime Is Already Over With
With the news coming out that Maria Sharapova had to withdraw from the Open Gaz De France Tournament, it got me thinking about the last time that she was actually relevant in a tennis tournament.
Obviously, there are extenuating circumstances this time, she is battling a viral infection, but it's been a while since she made any noise in a tennis tournament.
Tennis players are known for having very short shelf lives, with most of them peaking between the ages of 20-25. Sharapova came into the mainstream in 2004, when she won Wimbledon at the age of 17. She defeated Serena Williams in that final.
She would go on to win two more major championships, the 2006 U.S. Open and the 2008 Australian Open. She was the top ranked female tennis player in the world a couple of different times in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
However, since 2008 she has been largely irrelevant in tennis. She won the Australian Open to begin the year, but she hasn't reached a grand slam final since then. She hasn't won a tournament of any kind since May 2010.
She has fallen to no. 13 in the world tennis rankings. She has been very inconsistent on the court. Plus, she has other ventures going on outside the tennis world. She has a number of endorsement deals, she does some modeling and she is engaged to be married to New Jersey Nets G Sasha Vujacic.
Her days as an elite tennis player are over, but at least she had a good, successful run.

Los Angeles Lakers Showed Their Mettle In Defeating The Celtics Thursday Night
All the rumors about Carmelo Anthony and Andrew Bynum being involved in a potential trade for each other was probably put on the Lakers back burner after last night's 92-86 victory in Boston.
As good as Carmelo is, the Lakers are great when Bynum is the man in the middle for them. Sure, it's been a struggle to keep him healthy, but when he is they are one of the three best teams in the NBA.
For example, last night Bynum was able to play 34 minutes and put up 16 points and nine rebounds. It's not the most impressive line in the world, but if you saw how the Lakers looked when he was on the floor you would understand.
Without Bynum in the lineup, the Lakers basically have no inside presence. Pau Gasol is better away from the basket, and no one else on the team is capable of posting up in the paint. Their offense is much more one dimensional without him in it.
With Bynum, they are a dominant offensive and defensive team. Opposing teams don't have the ability to drive to the paint with his big body in the middle, and that forces more outside shots. Offensively it gives them another wrinkle to go along with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.
For all the talk about Carmelo possibly coming to Los Angeles, it makes more sense for the Lakers to ride out the rest of the season with Bryant, Gasol and Bynum and see how far that takes them.
You can't replace an inside presence with an outside shooter. The Lakers are much more likely to win a championship this year hoping that Bynum remains healthy than they are bringing in a player like Carmelo Anthony.
