As much of a fan of the hardworking, grinder style player I am, I have had about enough of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke blatant disregard for the rules and his opponents' safety.

Another fun filled week for Cooke started this past Sunday, when he decided that a knee-to-knee hit was the best way to take out Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin.

Cooke then trumped that filth with running Blue Jackets blue liner Fedor Tyutin's head into the glass as Tyutin was attempting to play the puck.

These are not isolated incidents of dirty play either. Cooke has a reputation of "playing on the edge," so some experts say. I think that could be no further from the truth.

He has crossed that line immensely and plays with the intent to injure players.

Some of Cooke's victims include Rangers forward Artem Anisimov, Carolina forward Erik Cole, Atlanta blue liner Zach Bogosian the aforementioned Alex Ovechkin and Fedor Tyutin, Vinny Lecavalier, Mats Sundin, Duncan Keith and the worst to date would be Cooke possibly being responsible for ending Boston forward Marc Savard's career.

That's a very small sample of what Matt Cooke has done in the past dozen seasons in the NHL, as the league turns a blind eye to his actions and slaps his wrist while applying a very small fine every time.

Unfortunately for the players that are victims to his actions, they are left to sit in the press box and wonder if anything will ever change.

Or is Colin Campbell actually going to make Cooke pay severely for every dirty hit he lays out.

Fans and players alike are holding out little hope for change in something that must be changed. 

Matt Cooke needs to realize playing in the NHL is an honor and should not be taken so lightly.
