Michaels VS. Jericho 3: LADDER MATCH

The date will be Sunday, October 5, 2008. The PPV will be WWE No Mercy and it will be held in Portland, Oregon. A match will take place that every wrestling fan craves every year. It is one of the most exciting matches ever created and this match hasn't taken place since June 1, 2008. Can you guess what it is? It is the.....LADDER MATCH! Shawn Michaels was in the very first ladder match to ever take place in the WWE in a non-televised match against Bret "Hitman" Hart. He was also in the first ever televised ladder match when he battled "The Bad Guy" Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental title at Wrestlemania X. This time Michaels will wage war with his longtime rival, Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Title.

This will only be Jericho's second title defense after he survived a ruthless and brutal cage match against former champ, CM Punk last Monday on Monday Night Raw. Jericho was so glad about retaining that he came out to brag about it later on that night. Jericho had no idea what he was in for.

Jericho came out and announced that he had an idea for the main event at No Mercy. His idea was that Batista and JBL would fight to determine the number one contender for his title and afterwards, Jericho would come out to face the winner. RAW GM Mike Adamle had a different idea. Adamle came out and announced that JBL and Batista would indeed right for the number one contender, but Jericho would have a different opponent that evening.

All of a sudden, Shawn Michaels' theme "Sexy Boy" blasts through the arena and the "Heartbreak Kid" comes out. Michaels said that they would indeed wrestle again, but not just in any kind of match. He went to the back and brought out a....ladder. The crowd went wild and Jericho had a stunned look on his face. He looked like he just saw a ghost. If Jericho wants to retain his belt at No Mercy he had better get to the film room and check out Michaels' other ladder matches.

Michaels has participated in 5 ladder matches against Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, Jeff Jarrett and Triple H. He fought Ramon twice and won one and lost one. Michaels' experience will be a key factor in this match and the feud with Jericho will finish as one for the ages. This feud has lasted for months since April 27 at Backlash. It was Michaels vs. Batista and Jericho was the referee. Michaels looked as if he injured his leg during the match and just when Batista wasn't looking, Michaels turned him around and gave him "Sweet Chin Music" for the victory.

It was controversial whether or not Michaels was really injured and Jericho came out week after week to talk about it. He called Michaels out and claimed Michaels was a liar and a back stabber. Michaels eventually admitted to faking the injury and this set-up their first match at Judgement Day on May 18, 2008. Michaels won by pinning Jericho while he was attempting the Walls of Jericho.

On June 9, 2008 this feud would escalate to the point of brutality and viciousness. Jericho called Michaels out on the "Highlight Reel." Michaels came out and the two talked about their feud. All of a sudden, Jericho snapped. He attacked Michaels so brutally that Michaels left with a detached retina in his eye. Michaels was out of action for a month and a half. Jericho had become a sinister and evil individual. He aligned himself with Lance Cade, who turned on his partner Trevor Murdoch. The two would claim Michaels career was over and he would never return. Michaels would return and it set-up a match at the Great American bash on July 20, 2008.

This match would end bloody and brutally, after Jericho and Cade continually attacked and targeted Michaels' right eye. The referee had to eventually stop the match due to Michaels' eye injury. Jericho would brag for weeks that Michaels' career was indeed over. He kept on saying that we would never see Michaels in the ring again and that he would be remembered for ending Michaels' career. This led to Michaels making a huge announcement at Summerslam on August 17, 2008.

Michaels came out that night, along with his wife Rebecca. The two were choking up and teary-eyed as Michaels spoke on the microphone. Michaels said that his eye was so damaged that the doctors had told him he could never wrestle again. Michaels said it was time to walk away.

This led to Jericho coming out to interrupt. Jericho wanted Michaels to say to him that Michaels' career is over, because of Chris Jericho. He kept egging him on to say it, but Michaels grabbed the microphone and said he wanted Jericho to go home to his kids and say to them that their father will "never be Shawn Michaels." Jericho was furious and went to punch Michaels, but Michaels ducked and he punched Rebecca in the face. Michaels attended to her immediately as Jericho walked out with a stunned look on his face. Michaels looked at Jericho as Jericho was walking up the ramp as if to say that he had hell to pay.

Michaels and Jericho began feuding again over the next few weeks and it set-up their match at Unforgiven. The match was an unsanctioned match at Unforgiven on September 7, 2008. Michaels and Jericho beat the living hell out of each other. Michaels ended up getting the last laugh as he left Jericho a bloody mess in the ring. Michaels left the arena and satisfied with the victory.

Earlier in the night, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk was attacked by Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase, Cody Rhodes and Manu. This led to Raw GM Mike Adamle making a substitute. He came out to announce the replacement and it was none other than Chris Jericho! Jericho came out bloody and injured after his match with Michaels. Jericho got the last laugh as he pinned Kane with 9 seconds to go in the Scramble match. Jericho was as happy as ever and wasn't shy about bragging about his victory. He may want to be careful about his bragging, because his reign could end soon enough as we head into the ladder match on October 5. Make sure you get your tape recorders or DVR recorders ready for this match, because it's going to be one that nobody will ever forget.
