Tony Hawk Files For Divorce From Third Wife

Have you ever wondered where skateboarding would be without Tony Hawk?

For that matter, have you ever wondered where extreme sports as a whole would be without Tony Hawk?

Well, they probably wouldn't feature prominently on ESPN2, and we probably wouldn't have Hawk's awesome video games sucking up ridiculous amounts of our spare time. So for that, Mr. Hawk, we thank you.

Unfortunately, today brings some rather unfortunate news regarding the world's most famous skateboarder, as People magazine reported earlier on Monday that Hawk and his third wife, Lhotse Merriam, have decided to call it quits.

Technically, the couple filed for divorce in North San Diego County on Friday. They released a joint statement earlier today that called for the general public to give them some space.

"We remain deeply committed and loving parents to our daughter, and out of respect for that responsibility we ask that people honor our family's privacy during this important time of transition," read the statement.

The two got married in Fiji in early January of 2006. Merriam gave birth to their first child in June of 2008, a daughter named Kadence Clover Hawk. Hawk also has three children from previous relationships.

There you have it, folks. Sad news, to be sure. For a fun trip down memory lane, check out our list of The 25 Biggest Stars in Summer X Games History.
