Stephen Fleming, the former New Zealand Black Caps captain, has claimed the front-runner spot to replace current Indian coach Gary Kirsten as coach after this year's Cricket World Cup. Gary Kirsten's contract finishes after the World Cup and has shown no interest in extending his contract, which has moved the attention over to Fleming.

Fleming has put himself in a great position amongst the Indian cricket community as he coached the Chennai Super Kings to win the Indian Premier League last year. He also worked alongside current Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which is pivotal in that they have had success together.

Fleming is highly respected in the cricketing world for having a shrewd cricketing mind and keeping well out of controversies.

However, a fair argument is whether coaching an IPL twenty/20 side to coaching the current No. 1 test nation is too bigger step for Fleming. He has plenty of experience in international cricket, playing 111 tests and 280 ODIs for the Black Caps. Although he wouldn't be alone, he would have an additional fielding, batting and bowling coach behind him too.

If Fleming doesn't take up a proper coaching job, it may be a waste of his thinking ability as he is one of the greatest thinkers in cricket.

Fleming has denied the rumour of being the front-runner to coach India, but one of the major factors may be the time he would have to spend away from his family. While coaching the Chennai team, he only needs to spend a few months away from home a year, but to coach India would mean a lot more months being spent away from family so would his mind really be completely on the job if he were India's next coach?
