After the game, I was left wondering if Pedro Martinez has anything left in the tank, and if he would even be able to give the Mets one more solid start. It seems that every time out, he gives up at least four runs, as he did last night in the Mets' 4-2 loss to the lowly Braves.
Believe it or not, it was Pedro's bat that worked better than his arm tonight. When Martinez hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth to bring the Mets to within 3-2, but that was as close as the Mets came in this one.
Besides Daniel Murphy, no one in the lineup looked good at the plate, but even after Carlos Beltran went down swinging to end the game, the Mets still held a steady lead atop the Brewers for the wild card.
One more negative note on the night for the Mets was the Phillies' 3-2 win over the streaking Florida Marlins, giving Philadelphia a half-game lead in the NL East.
