Rays Win, Repeat Twins '91 Feat

With a 7-2 win Saturday over the Twins (83-72), the Tampa Bay Rays clinched a playoff spot and repeat a feat the Twins pulled off in 1991. The Rays, last year finished dead last last year in the A.L. East and currently are in position to win the A.L. East this year. Twins starting pitcher, Kevin Slowey lasted only 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 earned runs. Ron Gardenhire wanted to get at least 7 innings out of Slowey. With this game the Twins' starting pitching struggles continue and fortunately the White Sox also lost to the Royals so the Twins stayed 2 1/2 GB. The Twins are looking to win tomorrow to have some momentum going in to their huge 3 game series against the White Sox starting on Tuesday. Fransico Liriano (5-3, 3.62 ERA) gets the start for the Twins tomorrow looking for at least a split in the series.
