Wait a minute. What just happened?
Jeff Fisher? Jim Mora? Mike Singletary?
Nope. Not any of them.
The Eagles have just announced moments ago that they will move offensive line coach, Castillo, to the defensive coordinator and rumors have it that Howard Mudd will be his replacement.
Mudd is regarded very well by many coaches and has a great reputation as an o-line coach.
After the Eagles fired defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, they have been looking around for a new one. Many names came up, such as the ones stated above and more.
Many reports stated that the Eagles front office had interviewed numerous secondary coaches in the league including Joe Woods, Kevin Greene, Darren Parry, Dom Capers and many others.
Little did all NFL fans know that the Eagles would move their offensive line coach to the position.
Many Eagles fans will question, how can a guy change from the offensive line coach to a defensive coordinator?
I may not know the answer to this question, but it will be very interesting to see how things pan out. As a die-hard Eagles fan, I was waiting for them to announce Jeff Fisher, but I guess my wish wasn't granted.
How will Juan Castillo do as the defensive coordinator?
However, I find the move very intriguing.
McDermott was a huge disappointment when it came to crunch time in Philly. The defense played dreadful and it was painful to watch the defense get trampled by...James Starks.
It can be said that almost anyone is better than McDermott based off of the defensive performance in this season's playoffs and the entire season alone. It can also be said that this is very shocking news for the city of Philadelphia.
I guess they didn't want to promote the assistant defensive coordinator because maybe they didn't want to start a bad history of bringing them up.
How do you think Philadelphia fans feel about this? Shocked is a great word to define my feelings right now.
Will he be able to turn around the defense and help lead the Eagles to the promised land?
The Eagles will be hosting a press conference in honor of Juan Castillo at the NovaCare Complex for his new position.
