So, Arsenal win ugly against Everton. After the run of games that we’ve had, I’m not too fussed about how the team played. The three points are the important thing. Coming back from a hotly disputed goal also pleases me, in years gone bye, the team has been prone to feeling sorry for themselves, not last night, they took the game by the scruff of the neck and made the result happen.
I pay extreme attention to every game, looking to identify the pros and cons, the high points and low ones, the great interchange of play and the lack of cohesion, the passing and tackling, the strengths and weaknesses. Last night there was a bit of all of those and it is interesting to note that for a period of about 8 minutes, the possesion rating read: ARSENAL 100% EVERTON 0%........
The game was destined to be one that would have the team stat slow, this after playing only 48 hours before, and in the first couple of minutes, the Everton midfield ran the game well, and there was even the chance of Jack Wilshere picking up a booking for a clumsy foul on the always falling Mikel Arteta. The performance of Marouane Fellani was impressive and Tim Howard was also impressive, but that said, the Everton team was looking to kick and shove the gunners at every attempt and they had the full support of the referee and his assistance.
It is sickening to watch officials act irresponsible when calling Arsenal games and we look to Divine intervention to save us from the inconsistence. Last night highlighted these problems and thanks to the effort of the team, a result was achieved that brought a smile to the face of supporters and I'm sure neutrals.
There is a lot of moaning in the press about Cesc’s attitude towards the referees. How many times has It been said we should treat the officials with the same contempt other teams do? There is no advantage to be had in being the nicest team in the Premiership. I’m glad Cesc gave it some last night.
Lets keep our heads up, be thankful for a win and move onto the next game. The title is United’s to lose, the longer they go unbeaten, the harder it'll hit when they lose their first game.
