We are now firmly on the road to Wrestlemania. Last night's Royal Rumble gave us a good look at what we could expect at the grandest stage of them all.
This time each year, we all put together the clues given to us by WWE and combine them with our own expectations to try to work out the Wrestlemania card.
So here are the matches I expect/want to see.
Now this is a very intriguing match. Apparently Rey handpicked Cody for a Wrestlemania match, and the feud we've seen start in the last few weeks should carry straight through.
Now I can’t be unhappy about this. No matter what people say about Rey’s injury problems, the guy can wrestle a good match, and as long as you put him in there with anyone half-decent, you’ll get an enjoyable match.
Now with Cody, we have someone who’s a solid mid-carder and would be able to hold his own in the odd main event. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see him as a World Champion, but I still have a lot of time for Cody.
Hopefully, WWE will give Cody the win to help establish him, this is not a win Rey needs in what could be his last Wrestlemania.
I know that this happened last Wrestlemania and it was a decent but not stellar match, and I can already hear you asking why but just think about it for a second.
Triple H will return at Wrestlemania, I have no doubt about that, and the only possible feud for him would be to try to get revenge on the man who took him out in the first place.
This would also be a good thing for Sheamus. He’s fallen into a lull at the moment and this could be the feud that catapults him back to the WWE Title picture.
So he won the King of the Ring, but it wasn't the strong win it should have been. Apart from that he’s lost multiple times to John Morrison and has struggled to find direction.
This will be the match that pushes him back to the Main Event and maybe even the WWE Title.
I don’t want to spend too much time on this one. We know there will be a divas match; we also know that I could be anything.
I expect it to centre on, both a feud between Michelle McCool and Layla; and the Divas Title.
Whatever WWE decides to do, it will be a bathroom break nestled in between the matches that will make up this card.
Yes I do believe this will return and let me give you my reasons. The MitB match is always good.
It’s a great way to open Wrestlemania and is a useful way to give the mid-card wrestlers a Wrestlemania payday and experience of being on the grandest stage of them all.
I believe The Miz used his MitB briefcase when he did, so that it wouldn't be around near the start of the road to Wrestlemania.
As for who will be in the match? I believe it will be a mixture of same old faces and up and coming talent. Expect:
- Christian, a trusted ladder match specialist;
- David Otunga, we need a Nexus member and he deserves a spot;
- Dolph Ziggler, nothing else for him and he’s a possible winner;
- Drew McIntyre, again nothing else for him;
- Evan Bourne, in the match to show off what he can do;
- Ezekiel Jackson, the Corre representative;
- Jack Swagger, WWE could push the fact that he won it last year and make him look a favourite;
- John Morrison, my pick to win and he always delivers in the MitB;
- Kane, the big man needs a match somewhere and again, WWE could point out that he won the Smackdown MitB;and
- Kofi Kingston, another wrestler who shines in MitB matches.
WWE could play this a few different ways. They could use this as the catalyst of a massive cross-brand feud between The Corre and The Nexus or it could be used as a teaser for a future feud.
Either way, it won’t be a classic but will make for an interesting match-up.
Now I should probably admit something. I’m a massive CM Punk mark. The guy has everything you need to succeed and is the best all-around wrestler in the world.
Randy Orton would sit at No. 2 on that list. Therefore, if this match does happen which is a pretty good bet, it would be a dream match for me.
Nether wrestler has anything to gain from this. Randy Orton has just come off the biggest title run of his career and CM Punk has just taken control of the most over wrestling group of the last few years.
Having said that, I don’t see ether man losing anything by not winning this match. This is one of those rare occasions where the only winners are the fans.
Personally I’d think CM Punk would be the better winner, but as long as these guys get enough time to do their thing, I’m happy.
As I said in my Royal Rumble preview piece, this is Wade’s reward for leading The Nexus to be the biggest angle in the WWE. We all know that Wade won’t win but what he’s being given is the chance to ply his skill against arguably the best wrestler in the world.
This is the third main-event spot at Wrestlemania and is arguably just as good as a World title shot. If Wade gets this match, right then it will be the making of his Main Event career.
The Undertaker has reminded the world just how good he can be in the last two years with jaw dropping performances against Shawn Michaels at two consecutive Wrestlemanias.
This is a man who has nothing to gain or lose and is doing this because he loves what he does. I’m excited to see what happens in this match and just what Wade Barrett can do.
This will be the seventh consecutive Wrestlemania in which John Cena has competed for a World Title. Now John Cena does get some unfair stick, but that is one stat that I can’t defend against.
I understand that WWE wants to push new stars, but they then contradict this by putting Cena in the main event year after year.
The Miz has had a massive year. He’s consistently been the most talked about wrestler in WWE and has really impressed during his WWE Title reign.
Maybe it is time for him to give up the title, I just wish it was to someone other than John Cena, Neither man is a mat technician so expect an average match and I hope this is not the end match-up.
Let’s talk about Edge first. He is the most consistent man in the WWE. He may not reach the heights of Randy Orton or CM Punk, but every time he sets foot in that ring you know that he’ll put on a solid match.
He’s won 10 World Titles and the reason he’s won so many is because he is WWE’s go-to guy. My only problem with this match is that Edge should be working heel, but that’s a minor gripe at best.
Now he have the Royal Rumble winner. I've heard a lot of people say he’s too green to headline Wrestlemania, I actually said it myself in my Royal Rumble preview. However, I’m open to see how this goes.
I've really enjoyed Del Rio’s work so far and WWE has put more trust in this man than they did with Triple H’s personal pet, Sheamus. That must mean that this guy has something very special about him.
Edge will win, but I’m very interested in seeing what Del Rio can do.
Now I would be very happy to see the card that I've just predicted, the only issue would be timing.
Last year’s Wrestlemania has some great matches on paper, but WWE cocked up the timings of the matches ,which damaged my enjoyment of the PPV.
If they get it right, then this could be one of the best Wrestlemanias ever. Well, I've got to be optimistic sometimes.
