WWE Royal Rumble 2011: Things We Learned From Alberto Del Rio's Win And More

0 of 11

With the biggest Royal Rumble match ever now in the books and with the two World Champions retaining their belts, it's now time to think about Wrestlemania 27.

It's not a secret for no one: Alberto Del Rio accomplished his destiny and created a huge upset by winning the historic over-the-rope extravaganza.

But in addition to that victory by Del Rio, many events happened during the Rumble match, and I invite you to take a look at the potential aftermath of the evening.

So, with no more introduction, let's take a look at what WWE may have in store for their biggest show of the year this coming April.

Randy Orton Vs. CM Punk at WrestleMania

1 of 11

With the New Nexus' interference and particularly with CM Punk's GTS on Randy Orton in the WWE Championship match, the tables are set for an instant classic match at Wrestlemania. Orton vs. Punk can be called official on the Grandest Stage Of Them All.

Since The Viper didn't win the Rumble match, he is probably not set for a WWE Championship match at Wrestlemania, unless CM Punk wins the Title in the meantime.

Hopefully it will be a Hell In A Cell match or any stipulation to avoid annoying interference from Nexus.

Randy Orton Will Struggle Against The "New" Nexus

2 of 11

A feud against CM Punk automatically means a feud against four other rivals. Anywhere you will find Punk, you will find the New Nexus.

It will be interesting to see how The Viper will battle against the group. It might be something great if built properly.

Hopefully, the Punk and Orton encounter will be in a Hell In A Cell match or with any stipulation keeping the Nexus out of the match.

John Cena vs. The Miz

3 of 11

With John Cena eliminating CM Punk and three members of the New Nexus, the end is probably near for the rivalry. With Nexus busy to hunt Orton, Cena will be able to focus on the WWE Championship.

That means John Cena will either win the Title at Elimination Chamber or earn a No. 1 contendership. But in any case, we can place our money on a WWE Championship match between The Miz and John Cena at WrestleMania.

The only thing to determine is who will enter the Grandest Stage Of Them All as the Champion.

The Corre Vs. The New Nexus

4 of 11

Obviously, after the chaotic start of the Royal Rumble match, the feud between The Corre and The Nexus is far from over.

Hopefully for Randy Orton, The Corre might give him a hand to survive until Wrestlemania to face CM Punk.

With the Nexus leader busy, it could make a good 4-on-4 tag team match, some 1-on-1 matches or 2-on-2 bouts. Anyway, the possibilities are infinite.

Daniel Bryan Is a Lock As Future Main-Eventer

5 of 11

After his brilliant performance in the Royal Rumble match, the US Champion certainly has a bright future with WWE.

With some buildup, Bryan could be in the World Championship picture by the end of the year. He has a great momentum going for him and he will maybe steal the show at Wrestlemania or at least be in a classic mid-card match.

The WWE Creative Team Was Not Always Actually Creative

6 of 11

No, you're not dreaming. What you see on the picture is really Hornswoggle doing an Attitude Adjustment on Tyson Kidd.

Not only Hornswoggle lasted many long minutes, but he helped Cena to clear the ring, until Sheamus made the save and eliminated the midget who had no business there.

I would have preferred to see Primo, who was scheduled but didn't appear.

Diesel vs. Big Show

7 of 11

Diesel received a huge pop from the crowd. He did well in the match and the fans chanted his name surprisingly loud.

He didn't last long in the ring, but his presence in WWE might be more than just a one-night deal.

After he was walking backstage, Diesel went eye-to-eye with Big Show who made his entrance. That means the two giants will probably collide at Wrestlemania.

The Great Britain Connection

8 of 11

The Celtic Warrior and The Sinister Scotsman formed a devastating duo in the Royal Rumble match. They teamed up together for some time and worked as a very well-oiled team.

Could it be the beginning of a new tag team? If it's the case, it will be only a matter of time before they win the Tag Team Championship.

And with William Regal as their mentor, they could form an amazing trio.

Very Few Surprises Or Shocking Moments

9 of 11

With only Booker T and Diesel as (not so) surprising entrants, WWE offered very few big surprises to the fans and they didn't offer many memorable moments.

With his short and not convincing presence, Booker T entered the match with probably only a one-night deal unlike Diesel. When the other surprise participants are Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton, we see there was something wrong.

Ziggler and The Viper were okay, but did we really enjoy Hornswoggle and Riley as surprises?

Fortunately, Chavo Guerrero had his "Royal Rumble Moment" with his successive Three Amigos attempts on many opponents in a row; it was a nice tribute to Eddie Guerrero.

John Morrison playing at Spider-Man was also another great moment; it was pure gold to see him thrown over the rope to get hooked on the barricade and then jump on the steel steps to re-enter the ring.

The finale was also somewhat entertaining with Santino Marella getting back in the ring after he rolled under the bottom rope to hit a stunned Del Rio with The Cobra.

Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio

10 of 11

So, we got it. The WWE are very high on Alberto Del Rio and he looked great in the Royal Rumble match. Del Rio claimed it was his destiny to win the over-the-rope extravaganza, and he did just that. He accomplished his destiny and he will headline Wrestlemania.

Del Rio against Edge sounds like the perfect match. Edge proved to be a solid World Heavyweight Champion with his victory over Dolph Ziggler.

The Ultimate Opportunist is very over with the fans and there are rumors about him retiring sooner than later so a last Wrestlemania main even for him makes sense.

It would be a classic "veteran who passes the torch" moment, because Del Rio is currently on an unstoppable roll that might last for long.

Conclusion

11 of 11

So, this is what we have to discuss after the shocking outcome of the 2011 January classic. Like it or not, Alberto Del Rio's ascension is not to stop or slow down anytime soon. But it's a refreshing result.

Del Rio already proved he had what it takes to reach the top. He has the perfect heel attitude and the fans love to hate him.

If there were not many shocking moments, we can foresee some good things coming for the next few months on the road to Wrestlemania.

If the Rumble match was not the most intense, it was still interesting and the seeds of many storylines have been planted.

These were the 10 things I noticed at first sight, but there are many more and I'd like to hear from you what you have in mind about tonight's events.
