Shaquille O'Neal: Why Do Lakers Fans Still Care About Celtics Big Man?

On Sunday’s matchup between the Lakers and the Celtics, Los Angeles fans will be seeing a familiar face in green and white. That’s right kids, Shaquille O’Neal is coming into town but as a member of the hated Boston Celtics.

The last time Shaq was a member of the Lakers, it was 2004. Since then he bounced around from team to team before ending up in Boston. What I have a hard time understanding is why Lakers fans have such a strong reaction to Shaq coming back to LA? He has not been a dominant player in the NBA since his first season in Miami. Since then he has only had once seasons where he played more than 70 games.

I can understand that Lakers fans would be upset at seeing Shaq in a Celtics jersey, but honestly it’s not like Shaq is the same guy that helped carry the Lakers to three straight championships.

This year Shaq is averaging a career lows in points (9.8), rebounds (5.0), assists (0.8) and minutes (21.1).

Sure the Lakers will be seeing the same face that brought the Lakers glory in the early 2000s, but that guy has been gone for a long time.
