Monta Ellis deserves to make the All-Star team—that much is settled. But who should he be selected over?

I've seen a few people on message boards arguing that Monta should make the All-Star team over Russell Westbrook. Some of you guys must be drinking the same Kool-Aid that Bob Fitzgerald has been shotgunning.

Tangent: The actual All-Star Game is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. I'd rather watch a WNBA doubleheader (just kidding, I would rather gouge my eyes out than watch a WNBA game).

Let's break down some of the arguments:

Kevin Durant makes things more "convenient" for Westbrook

I agree to an extent, but I think this point is short-changing Westbrook's ability. In the four games that Durant missed due to injury, Westbrook averaged 26.8 points, seven assists and 6.3 rebounds. The Thunder went 3-1 in those four games (all on the road). Monta has the ultimate green light and doesn't have to share touches like Elin Nordegren. Now that is convenient.

Monta is the better scorer

Monta has a better jump shot and might be one of the best finishers in the game, but Russell Westbrook is more efficient. If you prorate Russell Westbrook's 1.3 points per shot over Monta's league leading 20.8 attempts, Westbrook would average 27 points per game.

In terms of PER, Westbrook is more efficient. Westbrook ranks eighth, while Monta is 38th.

Monta has more "Where Amazing Happens" games

You tell me which player has more impressive stat lines:

(Points/Rebounds/Assists)

Player A

44/1/7
46/3/2
40/3/5
38/4/7
36/4/7

Player B

38/15/9
35/13/13
32/10/13
43/8/8
23/10/10

Player B, Russell Westbrook, has put up some '08-'09 LeBron James-type stat lines. Monta might have had more jaw-dropping offensive outbursts, but Westbrook is the total package.

Not only does Westbrook have the best post-dunk celebrations in the league, but he's also better than Monta in virtually every facet of the game. Put the Kool-Aid down, folks. Monta deserves to make the All-Star team, but not at Westbrook's expense.
