Philadelphia Flyers: Erik Cole's Potential Effect on the Salary Cap
Mike Stobe/Getty Images
Speculation of a Carolina Hurricanes' Erik Cole-to-Philadelphia deal is growing. The 32-year-old left winger would bring solid defense to the orange and black to make up for Nik Zherdev's lack of it.
Here is how the deal would play out on the financial side:
Cole has a current salary of $3 million with a $2.9 million cap hit.
If the deal were done today, the Flyers would owe him approximately $1,091,398 and would be an estimated $30,130 OVER the cap by at the end of the season.
As you can see, the Flyers won't be in too much debt with the acquisition of Cole. Is it worth it?
I have no problem with midseason trades, but if it could mean altering the team chemistry, I'm not sure I'd pull the trigger.
