Syracuse Football: Get On Your Brown Paper Bag

There is no hope for Syracuse football at the present moment. The team is facing off against Northeastern this weekend in what could be their only win of 2008. The once proud program of Ernie Davis, Jim Brown, and in recent years Donovan McNabb and Dwight Freeney has dropped off big time.

The team's problems go across the board.

SU may have the worst receiving corps of any BCS conference school. The only decent thing on offense, the running game, is constantly facing eight in the box defenses because SU opponents think of their passing game as a straight-to-DVD-movie—it's just not worth watching. If they win two or even three games, consider it a miracle.

On defense, the problems continue. The only bright spot on defense and on perhaps the whole team is DT Arthur Jones. The 6'4" Jones is closing in on 40 career tackles for a loss and is destined to be a contributor on Sunday's.

Outside of Jones, the rest of the DL lacks the strength and speed to be factors. One player to watch in the future is DE Jared Kimmel. He has size at 6'6" and has the athleticism needed to make an impact.

The Orange linebackers are horrible and can't tackle at all, which is a problem shared by both the players and the coaches. The secondary suffers from a lack of experience, and to see that all a fan would need to do is to watch a replay of the Penn State game.

Our DBs looked like first time chefs on Hell's Kitchen to PSU's WRs as Gordon Ramsay, constantly making them scared and showing them how bad they are.

Greg Robinson will not be back next season, which is almost a lock.

A list of potential replacements include: Skip Holtz (East Carolina), Lane Kiffin (Oakland Raiders), Turner Gill (Buffalo), Mike Locksley (Illinois), and Chip Kelly (Oregon).

SU fans are pining for the days of Paul Pasqualoni. Someday soon, 'Cuse fans, the Orange Nation will rise again.
