Pollsters: "Gimme Some More of That SEC Kool-Aid"

But the undefeated Ducks are ranked No. 17, behind Ohio State.

While it may not be fair, the pollsters have awarded SEC teams top 10 status after beating cupcakes, while at least three other teams—Oregon, Penn State, and BYU—have beaten BCS conference team, and are ranked behind 2-1 Ohio State.

Color us confused when Auburn climbs to the No. 10 spot after beating Mississippi State 3-2 when Mississippi State lost to Louisiana Tech!

Wait a minute—Auburn scored three points on an SEC team who gave up 22 points to Tech, and they get No. 10? How is that possible?

Kool-Aid.

If you are an East Carolina fan, well, sorry. No one was impressed by your wins over Virginia Tech 27-22, West Virginia 24-3 or Tulane 28-24. But they were impressed by Bama's win over Tulane. Go figure.

For beating two quality teams, you get the No. 15 spot, behind Ohio State.

The Kool-Aid drinking has been elevated to absurd levels. While SEC fans point to the lowly Pac-10 and laugh at how the Mountain West beat up the Pac-10 last week, they forget that BYU, the Mountain West's biggest hope, trounced UCLA, who beat a better-than-average Tennessee.

Transitive property of the day: Tennessee < UCLA < BYU.

Gulp that one down. Lucky for SEC teams, they don't play any MWC teams, eh?

Some real tests come up this weekend and should shake the standings up. Florida plays at Tennessee—and Gator fans, this one worries me. LSU plays at Auburn, and that one will expose Auburn as over-hyped.

So one SEC team, maybe two, will drop from the top 10.

Georgia plays at ASU, and while it looks like the Dawgs will cruise through that game, what if the Devils show up? Will the Dawgs cancel all future road trips out of the state and wait another 40-something years to try this experiment again?

Moreover, will they "only" drop slightly because they lost to a suddenly very good Pac-10 team? The pollsters' thought process has validated this flip-flop attitude so far. See South Carolina's win over N.C. State for further explanation of the pollsters' wishy-washiness.

There could be three SEC teams dropping out of the top 10 this weekend (Bama will roll over the horrid Razorbacks), and some Big Ten fans are no doubt hoping this will happen, as they have taken some serious criticism from the SEC fans.

The pollsters will, no doubt, somehow find a way to put Vandy in the top 25 if a couple of SEC teams drop, won't they? After all, the Commies are in second place in the SEC East, beating the Gamecocks, Owls, and RedHawks. Who?

Feeling a little confused? Fed up yet?

Why isn't Ball State in the top 25? They beat Northeastern, Navy, and Akron! If the Bulldogs can be ranked No. 3 after beating Georgia Southern, Central Michigan, and South Carolina, where should the Cardinals be?

OK, let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Cards are in the MAC, and no one takes them seriously as high-level competition, right?

Unless an SEC team beats them (Central Michigan), of course. Then it's a good, quality win.

Pass the Kool-Aid.

(Go Gators!)
