LA Lakers: Lakers React After Former Lakers Legend Criticizes Team Defense.

If you haven't heard, former Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West criticized the Lakers' defense a few days ago at a friendly luncheon.

Now Lakers players and coach Phil Jackson have to respond to these comments (via the LA Times):

"If there’s a loose ball now, how often do they get it? The reason you ‘can’t play defense’ is because you can’t! ...I don’t think the Lakers will be good for much longer. You can keep a car running for a long time by changing the tires, etc. You can’t change a player’s tires."

A little harsh are we Jerry?

Lakers star Kobe Bryant appeared a bit defensive:

"We're ranked like what, third in the league in defense?" Bryant said.

Jackson actually reportedly agreed with West.

And guard Derek Fisher, who would not respond directly to West's comments, citing respect for him, said this instead:

"I won't respond specifically to him," Fisher said of West. "But anybody else who has anything to say about how we've been playing defensively, it's just unfounded and not true."
