Herschel Walker: Former Football Great Looking to Become Oldest NFL Player Ever.
At 48 years of age, former football great Herschel Walker has declared that he is thinking about working toward a comeback in the NFL in possibly two years time.
Quarterback George Blanda played until he was 48, but he was a kicker the last six years of his career.
Players with the greatest longevity in the NFL tend to be quarterbacks and kickers. The oldest running back to ever play in the NFL was Marcus Allen at age 37.
Does Walker even have a chance?
Well, he's said he's in the best shape of his life at the moment, currently an MMA fighter.
But being in the best shape doesn't necessarily mean you are less injury prone. In fact, it would be hard to imagine the game not taking a serious toll on him physically at 50.
Maybe he could become a goal line back for a team, but as far as a featured back, I find it to be a bit of a stretch.
Nonetheless, it would be a great story.
