Todd Collins: NFC Championship Game Should Be the Last We See of Collins
Todd Collins was quickly taken from the NFC Championship game. That should tell you where he is at for his career. The veteran quarterback will be 40 this year and very well could have played his last NFL game.
The Bears backup stated that he would retire in 2009 only to return in dust up duty for the Bears. His Chicago tenure has been dismal. He started one game this year that ended in a passer rating of 6. The manner of his departure should signal a time that he should really say goodbye to the game he has loved for so long.
The Bears were faced with an injured Jay Cutler. Head coach Lovie Smith then decided to go with back up Collins. He quickly went 0-4 in attempts and was pulled from duties. By inserting Caleb Hanie, Smith assured that Collins nor Cutler would return to the game. That shows how ineffective the Bears thought Collins would be.
It is certain that he has now over stayed his welcome in the NFL. He should retire and leave the football to players that can get the job done.
