Mathieu Schneider Placed on Waivers: Any Takers?

Aaron BrenkerCorrespondent ISeptember 16, 2008

The Anaheim Ducks have recently put veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider on waivers. Schneider will be available to any NHL team until Wednesday morning; if Schneider is not claimed, he will remain property of the Ducks.

The 39-year old defenseman played 65 games last season for the Ducks. Schneider put together a solid season, tallying 12 goals and 27 assists. He also amassed an impressive plus-22 rating. Schneider has loads of NHL experience playing for Detroit, the New York Rangers, Anaheim, and many other teams.

There will most likely be a good number of teams interested in acquiring the veteran defenseman. One of the more interested teams seems to be the Los Angeles Kings, as they have been wanting to acquire Schneider for quite some time.

A few other teams that may be interested in the veteran defenseman could be the New Jersey Devils and the St. Louis Blues.

New Jersey is lacking a veteran puck-moving defenseman on their blueline, while the Blues could use a veteran defenseman to groom young blue-liners Erik Johnson and Alex Pietrangelo.

Where Schneider will end his career is a mystery, but one thing that is certain is it's been an unbelievable career for Schneider, one that should end in the Hall of Fame.
