David Otunga: WWE Missed the Boat On a Possible Major Storyline

WWE missed an opportunity.

The consensus among the Internet wrestling community is that David Otunga is not ready. He's being pushed as the secondary star of Nexus because of his real life relationship with celebrity Jennifer Hudson. The belief is that the push is undeserved.

However, that doesn't matter. If Vince McMahon and company want to push someone, there's nothing that we can do about it besides gripe and vent.

Otunga is going to get pushed.

Unfortunately for WWE, though, they missed out on an opportunity to give Otunga some real momentum. The company could have given his character some more depth. It also could have added a new wrinkle to the Nexus story line.

When Wade Barrett was kicked out of Nexus, the writers should have done an angle where Otunga played a major role in that. There were already seeds planted for the story as Barrett and Otunga have butted heads in the past.

It would have made sense for Otunga to go along with a plan where he helped someone else take over leadership of the group. It also would have added on to CM Punk's character for him to figure out how to worm his way into Nexus by utilizing Otunga's hate for Barrett.

Instead, WWE rushed Barrett over to Smackdown, and Otunga is left in the same position that he has been stuck in for the last few months.
