College Football Recruiting: Westerman Goes from Hook 'Em Horns to War Eagle

After initially committing to Texas, Chandler HS (Arizona) product Christian Westerman, the top guard of the 2011 high school football class, has committed to Auburn.

Among the recent turmoil afoot at the University of Texas, especially with the offensive coaching staff (only recently did we sign an offensive line coach), the de-commitment of the 6'5", 295-pound powerhouse comes as no surprise. The loss knocks Texas down the recruiting ranks somewhat, but they still hold the top spot according to Scout.

The commitment gives the Tigers their first five-star recruit of the 2011 class after their National Championship season.

Hopefully, Westerman's decision doesn't begin a trend of withdrawn commitments for the Longhorns, as an average recruiting class is the last thing a program recently plummeting into chaos needs. A string of de-commits seems unlikely at this stage though, and Westerman was merely a tentative verbal commitment at this point anyway.

As he has waffled throughout the past few months over his commitment, there still remains a small chance of Westerman re-committing to Texas.

But don't count on it. Expect Westerman to be wearing blue and orange next season.
