NFL Commercials Nowadays...
Whatever happened to those Coors Light Twins, anyway?
Commercial Review 2: Peyton Manning hatches out of a football in the midst of a thunderstorm. He extends his knees and stands up straight wearing a black sleeveless undergarment and football pants. He suddenly has a Gatorade bottle in hand, and sips it ruggedly. Manning looks bold and tough throughout the entire commercial.
Commercial Review 3: The Manning family is at their home, evidently during the offseason. It appears they first plan to plant a garden. Eli orders his father and older brother to grab the rake and mulch. They seem to cooperate and work together well in this situation. Next, they are in the living room. They decide to split up the difficult tasks involved in getting ready to watch a movie. Eli is in charge of the popcorn and Peyton, the older and hence more responsible of the two, is in charge of dimming the lights. Lastly, they proceed to make breakfast together as a family.
Now, I could write a review for every commercial shown during NFL games'but far too many of my reviews would have the word "Peyton" in them. It's possible that my point of view is biased, but if I have to see one more Peyton Manning commercial on a Sunday, I think I'm going to have to rid myself of my eyes — la Oedipus.
Born and raised a Patriots fan, I've never liked the Colts or Peyton Manning. Seeing all of his commercials has brought my hatred to a new level. The past few years, commercials during NFL games were always enjoyable and often funny. What happened? Where are those Miller referees? The Coors Light Twins? How about the popular "wingman" series?
Sure, Manning's an unbelievable football player—I'll give him that. But the number of times his commercials are aired during games exceeds the number of points the defending Super Bowl champions scored last week. Come on! Someone had to say something.
Many athletes have done commercials; some have even starred in movies. Why not? It's great publicity, and it's not a bad way to earn a few bucks. But there is no celebrity of any sort (actor, athlete, etc.) who stars in more commercials than Peyton Manning.
Should it bother me?
No.
Does it bother me?
Yes.
Why?
Probably because there is so much talk about how much better Peyton Manning is than Tom Brady and other quarterbacks in the game today. Sure, he may be great on the set, but when he's in front of those big cameras during the playoffs—let's see how well he does then.
