The Mitchell Report
This is from a while ago, but just a little sample of my writing.
86 current and past players were named in the long-anticipated Mitchell Report, released early last week. As I read through the names, I thought this was going to be another keep-the-superstars-out-of-it report.
But as I got towards the middle, I saw the likes of Andy Pettitte, Brian Roberts, and Roger Clemens. A few days passed with no words from these stars, but then the floodgates opened.
Andy Pettitte released a report saying that he took HGH for two days at the start of the 2002 season. Two DAYS! Ok Andy, I know Mariano Rivera and the rest of America is praising you for coming clean about your steroid use, but come on, how gullible do you really think we are?
You're trying to tell us that you took a drug that is not tested for, speeds your recovery time, and increases your muscle mass for only two days?! From 2001 to 2002, Pettitte's ERA dropped from 3.99 to 3.27.
Now, I can see that happening in a normal situation, but not in Pettitte's. His ERA dropped .72 in one season coming off ELBOW SURGERY. One year after elbow surgery, a pitcher hopes to return to his old form, not have one of the best years of his career!
We may never know how long Andy Pettitte really used HGH for, but standing under oath in front of a grand jury is a great place to find out. Oh and Andy...You might want to drag along your buddy Roger, too.
