Rob Ryan Reports To Dallas Cowboys' Practice Facility in Valley Ranch
Rob Ryan is expected to be the Cowboys' next defensive coordinator.
The Dallas Cowboys have not made anything official yet. However, the club is likely to announce the hiring of Rob Ryan for the defensive coordinator position sometime this week.
He arrived at Valley Ranch Wednesday and met with head coach Jason Garrett. The former Raiders and Browns defensive coordinator is the twin brother of New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan.
Ryan first interviewed for the Cowboys' opening on Friday, and reportedly agreed to terms this past weekend. The delay of an official announcement could mean Ryan is putting a defensive staff together and the club wants to have that in place first before making an official announcement.
Either way, it is seemingly a bold move for the Cowboys to go with Ryan, who is such a contrast in personality to the mild-mannered Jason Garrett.
Something to ponder as personnel decisions are made soon: Former Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is a free agent after his incentive-based contract called for his release because he did not meet his personal quotas. Ryan coached Asomugha in Oakland and could have a major influence in getting "his guy" to come to Dallas.
Ryan should have a major influence on the defensive personnel, but ultimately Garrett, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have a word in the final decision on all things.
