Why Can't Fans Support Lewis Hamilton?
After reading a story about people not liking Lewis Hamilton, I feel it is time to stand up for him.
Britain has a long history of failing in sports, be it football, cricket, or Formula One, we have never led the world in any sport, until now...
Lewis Hamilton has had a very successful career—he won the European Formula A Championship in 2000 and the GP2 Championship in 2006.
Now, given the chance in Formula One, he has already proved himself to be one of the best in just one season. Fourteen races into the 2008 season, he looks like he could win the world championship.
Lewis set many records in his first year: most consecutive podiums from race debut (nine), youngest driver to lead a Formula One Championship (22 years, four months, eight days), most wins in debut season (four), and most pole positions in debut season (six).
As a fan, I have waited years for someone special from Britain to come into the sport and dominate and now I have it in Lewis Hamilton. With his undeniable brilliance comes some arrogance and stupidity, but you can credit that to his age.
I'm sick of people putting him down—why can't we just savour a young natural talent from Britain?
