Toronto's Globe and Mail is reporting that the NHL's scoring leader, Sidney Crosby is thinking about skipping the upcoming All-Star Game that will be held at the RBC Center in North Carolina on Sunday, Jan. 30.

Crosby, the leading vote-getter on the fan ballot with 635,509 votes, is said to be angry about how the NHL fails to protect its players.

The Globe and Mail, citing an unnamed NHL source, said that if Crosby did withdraw from the game, that he would most likely not reveal his true reasons for the withdrawal.

Crosby has not played a game since Jan. 5. During the course of that game he was hit by Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman. Hedman was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding on the hit, but no other action was taken by the NHL.

The Hedman hit came four days after the Washington Capitals' David Steckel hit Crosby with a shoulder to the head at the NHL Winter Classic in Pittsburgh. Steckel's hit on Crosby did not draw a penalty. Steckel claimed that the hit was inadvertent and that he hit Crosby as he turned to follow the play up the ice.

Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, said that he believes Crosby suffered the concussion he is recovering from, as a result of the Steckel hit. The Penguins claimed the concussion was suffered from the Hedman hit. Either way, Crosby is still suffering from concussion related symptoms and cannot return to play until he is symptom free.

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, "He won't progress until he's symptom-free to go on to the next state."

In other words, don't expect to see anyone rush the Penguins star back on to the ice until he fully recovers from this, the first concussion of his NHL career.
