Nowhere was this highly-touted recruit's hype more evident than when he made lemonade out of lemons in several series. He stepped out of the pocket and scampered like a deer in a meadow. He froze linebackers. He confused the corners.
And he's only a freshman.
While Tressel may want to play it safe, he may no longer have the option. The fast, quick recruits will pass on the Buckeyes if they keep their current playbook on page one.
Moreover, the more exciting the offense, the more highlight reels for BCS voters to look at. Don't kid yourselves. Georgia will probably drop a few votes while Oklahoma and Missouri will slug their way up.
The public wants excitement in bowl games, not a dull, boring offense. The ugly win has now been officially redefined as "an overrated team's lucky win."
When Temple and Buffalo provide more entertainment than a Big Ten superpower, change is needed.
When a linebacker intercepts a pass and outruns a speedy wide receiver, change is demanded.
While Tressel may want to keep the future of Buckeyes' football on the sidelines, the players need to see him play now.
The O-linemen need to see big chunks of yardage ripped off for all of their efforts. They need to see other defenses confused. They need to see terror in the opposing sides' linebackers.
They need some respect.
They also need some hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top of that scoop of vanilla.
