Coach Mike Kryzyzewski didn't hit the summer recruiting trail as much this year as he's done in the past, setting aside the needs of his full-time gig with Duke University in order to coach a team in a little event called the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Most recruits should be understanding, but K's absence began to make some of the Duke faithful uneasy; recruits were committing to other schools, and some recruits who had once listed the Blue Devils highly seemed to be drifting away.
Once the gold medals were handed out, the press interviews had been completed, and the glad-handing was over, K returned to Duke with the recruiting needs his No. 1 priority.
This weekend, Duke made not one, but two splashes in the class of 2010 by getting verbal commitments from Josh Hairston, a 6'8" forward from Virginia who also held offers from Virginia and Virginia Tech, and Tyler Thornton, a combo guard from Washington, D.C.
Thornton and Hairston had both spoke highly of Duke in the recent past.
