If someone offered you $7.7 million for something...ANYTHING...you would take it wouldn't you? Well, not if you are Michael Paulson. He turned down $7,700,000 for a colt by A.P. Indy out of the magnificant race mare Azeri. Now, it does not get any better than that in terms of pedigree. But...$7.7 million????? WOW. They plan to race him and he should do well. Then again, please take note of The Green Monkey countdown on the right side of this blog. He went for $16 milllion...
In all seriouness, there actually something postive a horse almost going for $8 million. Next the Triple Crown races and the Breeder's Cup series, the third most exiciting event in horse racing is Keeneland's Select Yearling Sale. Each year, at least one horse goes for an astronomical price as someone thinks the animal is the next Man O'War. That is the point, everyone thinks they have a shot at glory some with bigger bank accounts then others. As long as that belief continues, this sport and the industry that depends on it will do just fine.
