Rich Rodriguez Fired: "Not a pleasant decision, but the right decision"
The University of Michigan athletic department cannot be successful unless the football program is successful, athletic director Dave Brandon just said, and of course he's right.
"It's extremely important (to get the next coach right)," Brandon said. "This is about making a decision that will lay the groundwork for years to come. That's why I took my time. Although it's not a pleasant decision, I believe it's the right decision."
Brandon is now saying that Rich Rod "never had a peaceful night's sleep in the three years he was here...Michigan has been playing football for 131 years. Our win-loss record overall over the last three years is the worst in our 131-year history....Michigan is not used to this. Michigan fans expect more than this and so do Michigan athletic directors. We have to put ourselves in a position where the leadership we have and the momentum and energy is positive enough to put us back into play."
