Brandon was asked why he waited until after the bowl game.

"If you terminate a coach in December it's not going to help in recruiting," he said. "My judgment was the season ends with the last game and every game is important. I do not believe it is fair for these athletes to play on a big stage and not have them be coached by their coach. Clearly, other programs feel differently."

He added, "As we got into the back half of the season, I was like everybody else—looking for signs of improvement. I studied it very carefully."

Asked again about Jim Harbaugh and wehther he talked to him, Brandon said, "The connection points that Jim Harbaugh has to Michigan are plentiful. I don't want to speak on behalf of Jim. Jim has a lot of decisions to make. I have talked to Jim Harbaugh and I will continue to talk to Jim Harbaugh. He's a Michigan man."

Brandon himself went to Michigan and played football for Bo Schembechler.
