Golden Bear Classic Recap

Sam SugarmanCorrespondent IJanuary 1, 2008

The Cal Bears captured the Golden Bear Classic for the 10th time in the 15-year history of the event.

Cal guard Jerome Randle, who scored a career-high 26 points, was named MVP of the Classic. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Ryan Anderson (Cal), Ben Woodside (North Dakota State), Brett Winkelman (North Dakota State), Donovan Morris (Long Beach State), and Josh Linthicum (Bucknell).

Randle's previous high was 21 points set vs. San Diego State earlier this season.

In the two tournament games, Cal combined to make 26 three-pointers in 51 attempts. On Saturday, both Randle and Anderson were four-for-six from behind the arc.

Randle made all eight of his free throw attempts, the best performance by a Cal player at the line this year.

Cal trailed 35-28 at the break. This marks the third time this season the Bears have won after being behind at halftime.

Cal scored 58 points in the second half vs. North Dakota State after totaling 64 second-half points Friday vs. Long Beach State.

North Dakota State out-rebounded Cal 40-36, becoming just the second team to out-rebound the Bears this year. Kansas State was the other.

Anderson finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double this year. He has now scored at least 27 points in a game four times in 2007-08.
