The Seattle Seahawks only managed a 10-6 regular-season record, but they looked primed to make a run at the Super Bowl.

With a veteran quarterback, a good running back, competent receivers, and a very solid defense, the Seahawks could leapfrog the Cowboys and Packers to make a surprise trip to Glendale.

Honestly—what do Dallas and Green Bay have that these 'Hawks don't?

Seattle has a top-tier quarterback like the Cowboys and Packers. They have a better running back than either team. Their receivers can hang with Green Bay's. And though the Seattle defense isn't as good on paper, they aren't exactly a bad group.

This weekend, the controversy about whether to start hot QB Todd Collins or original starter Jason Campbell could haunt the Redskins—and help the Seahawks move on to the second round.

Then comes the hard part.

The 'Hawks will likely have to beat both Dallas and Green Bay. But, again, they've got what it takes. With steady play and a few lucky breaks, they may just find themselves playing for all the marbles.

I wouldn't be surprised.

And neither should you.

  1. The Seahawks Defense has more interceptions than either team, more sacks than Green Bay, and one less than Dallas.

They have the #2 sack leader (Kerney) and the #3 interceptions leader (Trufant).

This team stacks up nicely on defense, their main issue is the lack of a running game. By the way, the 2007 Shaun Alexander is not better than Ryan Grant, nor is he better than Jones/Barber, hence the numbers.

  2. Um...Jason Campbell can't play this week. he can barely walk.

  3. I never count this team out, Joe. They have all the ingredients to contend and they know the way to the Super Bowl. I think their toughest game is this weekend, though. If they can stave off the Redskins, they can certainly challenge Dallas or Green Bay in the next 2 rounds.

Washington is red hot right now. The Seahawks may have their 12th man, but so do the Redskins - Sean Taylor. They are a team on a mission. They came here to NY and pushed the Giants all over field. Then they went into Minnesota and hammered the Vikings. Last week, even if Dallas wanted to win that game, I don't think they could've. That's how good the 'Skins are playing right now.

The Hawks have cruised through this season without really being challenged. The other 3 teams in their division were either banged-up or just plain horrible. Just look at the teams they played the last 8 games. Not exactly a group that gets you prepared for the second season. It's not their fault, they can only play who's on their schedule, but they might be in for a shock this weekend.

Note: I don't think Gibbs would play Campbell even if he was available - which he's not. This is a different team since Collins has taken hold of the reins.

This might be the best game of the weekend...

  4. i am a seahawks fan but don't think they have a better running game than either green bay or dallas. ryan grant has been tearing shit up for the pack and i would rather have barber and jones than alexander and morris. we would have a better running game if we just gave leonard weaver the ball every down (obviously im not serious, but i think weaver is badass)

  5. The Seahawks play a bunch of patsies and all of their stats are inflated. The 12th man will be booing in the 3rd quarter as the Skins expose this pretender.

    1. i suppose the Skins are now considered 'patsies' then? or will you stop making excuses for why the hawks embarass you. *see 'anonymous' a few comments down...he wraps it up well.

  6. Shaun Alexander of 2007 is not better than Marion Barber. Hasselebeck isn't on the level of Romo or Favre.

That said, I wouldn't rule them out. However, I know they were playing a lot of reserves (but their first unit didn't impress me a whole lot), any team that loses to Carolina AND Atlanta can't be taken too seriously.

  7. Alexander is not better than Barber or Grant. Hasselbeck does not have the legacy of Farve, but he is clearly better than Romo. How many playoff games has Romo played in? How many playoff games has Romo lost? I think the Seahawks are sitting in a good position. The Redskins are talking like they are going to come into Seattle and roll the Seahawks. Remember the last time the Seahawks had something to play for? That was the game against the Cardinals, when the Seahawks decimated them. Seattle is going to bring their A game on Saturday and lay a beatdown on Collins and the Redskins. We shall see what happens after that...

  8. I have been following Seattle since Jim Zorn, and all I see is the same unpredictable team that they have always been. They will be great or they will be horrible... the weather in Seattle is more predictable than the Seahawks ever were.

  9. The Seahawks can beat anyone, and they can lose to anyone too. Their running game has been terrible this year - Shaun Alexander is brutally slow. I'd rather have Ryan Grant or the Jones/Barber hybrid any day. That said, the Hawks are the most playoff-tested team in the NFC this year. If they can get consistent pressure on Collins and force some mistakes, they'll take this game.

  10. They can, but they are not for real. They are still a team to fear in the NFC though.

  11. I agree with John. The 'Hawks have a good chance at representing the NFC if they can make it past the 'Skins. The NFC is wide open though, and it is my opinion that any of the teams in the tournament can make a run for Arizona. Everyone on the NFC side of the bracket has a Defense that can change games. It comes down to what else you can bring and if you can force your will upon the opponent. I am a 'Skins fan so guess who I think will go deep. That said I would not be surprised if the 'Hawks make it in or anyone else for that matter.
